Attending Day Schools at Tranmer House or The Old Court

Once you have booked:

Once we receive your request we will provisionally reserve a place for you. On receipt of the cheque we will confirm that place and send you a receipt plus a copy of the day's programme. If you are booking close to the day we will ask you to bring the cheque/cash with you. Paper copies of the programme will be handed out on the day.

How to get there:

Study Days are normally held in Tranmer House which is on the Sutton Hoo National Trust estate (OS Grid Ref TM288492) or in The Old Court which is opposite the restaurant. Sutton Hoo is 9 miles north-east of Ipswich. If you have access to the internet you can access an interactive map by entering the post code ‘IP12 3DJ’ into www.multimap.com.

Travelling by public transport:

By rail, take the train to Melton, near Woodbridge and then a taxi (Atlas Cars based at Melton station- 01394 380034) or walk (2 miles uphill). For bus options please contact First Eastern (01473 253734) – it takes 20 minutes to walk from the nearest bus stop to Tranmer House.

Lunch:

NT restaurant

In order to keep the cost to a minimum lunch is not included. You may eat in the NT restaurant (this is very good quality - coffee about £1.80, sandwiches about £3, soup & roll £4, and main meals about £7) alternatively you may prefer to bring a packed lunch.

The exhibition:

We have negotiated a special arrangement with the National Trust whereby you can gain free access to the exhibition during the Day School break for lunch. To obtain the free access (when the exhibition is open to the public) you must present the Day School programme at NT reception to obtain an entry ticket. You will not be allowed entry without obtaining a ticket first. This special arrangement only applies on the actual day of the Day School, it cannot be used on any other day.

Accommodation:

Information on local hotels and B&B is available from the Woodbridge tourist information office on 01394 382240. If you have access to the internet you can try Smoothhound.

Cancellations:

You may cancel up to 7 days before the event and receive a full refund. After that date a cancellation charge of £5 is payable. As a courtesy to others, please let us know as soon as possible if you need to cancel because often events are full and we can let people on the waiting know they can come.
